Alco's contuing improvement of the RS-2 road switcher led to the Model RS-3 in mid-1950. The uprated GT581 traction generator and the 1,600 h.p. V-12 244 prime mover resulted permitted an optional weight of 250,00 pounds. Unlike the earlier RS-2, dynamic brakes were available on the RS-3, and steam generators could be installed in the short hood. Though most roads ran the RS-3 long end forward, many roads ran the sort hood forward. offshoots were the RSC-3 series with A1A-A1A trucks and the RSD-4 and RSD-5 with C-C trucks.
The Division Point and Ajin Train Models will offer the RS-3 in various roads and paint schemes. Since many RS-3s continue in service, later schemes will also be offered. You are well advised to contact Pacific Western Rail to reserve yours!
This group is the first of multiple groups! Other groups will feature later paint schemes and second- and third-hand owners! Watch for more web pages . . . and watch for updates on this pages.
