These diminutive little switchers were built by Plymouth Locomotive Works in Plymouth, Ohio. Intended for light industrial use, they used a gas engine as a prime mover. Plymouth built more than 7500 switchers from 1910 until the late 1990's, with many still in service today. They were built in a variety of gauges for operators in different locations. Operators included lumbar companies, coal companies, brick makers, glass makers and a variety of railroads, both large and small. This hard little worker would make an interesting addition to many layouts. Many an HO modeler may remember a Tyco version of these locomotives from their first childhood train sets.
