Union Pacific
Class FTT 4-10-2
"Overland"

Using the same reasoning as the Southern Pacific, the Union Pacific also elected to purchase Alco 4-10-2s. To the U.P., these fast heavy haulers were "Overland"s! Delivery was in 1926, and the Overland Class led a dull existance, working the dry, arid regions between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. The U.P. directed some differences in their 4-10-2s: dome-type throttle valve, extended smokebox front, Okadee overhead boiler blowdown system, etc.

Eventually, the U.P. mechanical bosses had enough of the 3-cylinder arrangement, and in 1942 the Los Angeles Shops converted all ten into two cylinder 4-10-2s, enlarged the sand dome and installed Boxpok main drivers. The smoke box lost it's flat chin and became round, and Worthington feedwater heaters were replaced by exhaust steam injectors.

Originally, the FTT class were equipped with Vanderbilt 12,000-gallon/20-ton coal tenders. These were converted to oil in the 1930s, and stayed that way until the end. The Division Point and Boo-Rim will offer this LIMITED EDITION project in different numbers. With only 80 pieces to be produced!
