F59PHI Locomotives

The EMD F59PH1 was first built in 1994 and is a mainstay of modern commuter rail services across North America. The locomotive is powered by a 3,200 horse power prime mover and features a streamlined composite carbody for lighter weight and easy access for maintenance. Units feature head end power units to provide power to the passenger cars in tow. The F59PH1 is capable of speeds of 110 MPH, but is currently limited due to shared trackage and track limitations.

Bombardier Commuter Cars

In 1975 Bombardier teamed with Toronto's GO Transit to design a bi-level commuter coach capable of carrying 130 passengers. Two years later, the first of these cars went into service and GO Transit continues to have the largest fleet with over 300 cars. In 1989, Tri-Rail, serving Miami, began service with leased GO cars and later bought 26 cars. That same year a set of GO equipment made a demonstration tour. The tour was a success as Southern California's Metrolink started service in 1992 and has the second largest fleet of 122 cars.
Since then, San Diego's Coaster, West Coast Express in Vancouver, BC., Altamont Commuter Express in California, Seattle's Sounder, and Trinity Railway Express serving Dallas and Fort Worth have all acquired fleets of the cars. In addition, two Sounder train sets have been leased to Virginia Railway Express.
Athearn has made a change for this release. There are six schemes and each has a 3 Coach Set, a single Coach and a Cab Control Car available. This allows the modeler to build a 5 car consist in one order.
