The K4 Pacific was the cornerstone of Pennsys passenger service. For 41 years, 1916 through 1957, the K4 performed most competently with a superb combination of speed, power and grace. So enamored with this locomotive, the Juniata and Baldwin Shops built 425 units in 11 years. In the mid 1930s, as the passenger consists grew longer and heavier, Pennsy would double and even triple head the K4s. Imagine yourself standing next to a track in Pennsylvania, seeing and hearing a consist of triple headed K4s pulling a long line of passenger cars pulled with patrons speeding by.
