About The Book:

Bestselling railway author Barrie Sanford has teamed with Canadian railway artist Max Jacquiard to produce one of the most exciting railway books of the decade. From nearly 400 Jacquiard railway paintings, Barrie has selected 100 of the finest for this book. Text and ephemera from Barrie’s private collection have been included and carefully blended with supporting background text and additional historical images to enhance the magnificent visual heritage created by the artist. The mountains of British Columbia and Alberta form the backdrop for most of the paintings, so mountain scenes dominate this book. Dramatic images of a wide variety of steam locomotives are portrayed including those of Canadian National Railway, Canadian Pacific Railway, Great Northern Railway and Pacific Great Eastern Railway. The book also includes a comprehensive index and a Locomotive index for easy reference.

About the Artist:

Max Jacquiard is arguably the best railway artist Canada has ever produced. Most certainly, his paintings rival those created by such renowned predecessors as Griff Teller, Otto Kuhler and the legendary Howard Fogg. Paintings and prints of railway scenes by Max grace thousands of homes and offices across North America. He has been inducted into the Railway Association of Canada’s Hall of Fame, an honour normally reserved for those working in the railway industry. But with images Max has created hanging in the executive boardrooms of railway offices across the continent, the title of “railroader” is one to which Max has legitimate claim.

About the Author:

Barrie Sanford is one of BC’s most prolific and highly regarded railway historians. He spent 10 years researching BC’s Kettle Valley Railway before writing his bestselling railway histories McCulloch’s Wonder followed by Steel Rails & Iron Men (Whitecap Books). Other books by Barrie Sanford include Royal Metal: The People, Times and Trains of New Westminster Bridge and Railway by the Bay: 100 Years of Trains at White Rock, Crescent Beach and Ocean Park published by the National Railway Historical Society.
