In the 1970’s, FMC introduced their 50’ FMC Double Door Boxcar to railroads who were adding large numbers of new cars to replace aging fleets and to the growing pool and lease fleets. These cars sold very well to many railroads. Today, these cars can be seen on even more railroads through sales and mergers.

A special note to our Canadian and NAR modelers: One of the requests we hear the most from you, and agree with, is that there are not enough products produced for the Canadian roads. We lobby all the manufacturers to produce more Canadian road items. Last year, Athearn answered the call with the release of a 50’ FMC Double Door Boxcar in NAR livery. This was a very popular product and sold out quickly. This year, Athearn has announced three more road numbers for the Northern Alberta Railway.
