Designed for the Missouri Pacific in the late 1970s, the Short Body Bay Window Caboose was one of the last caboose styles to be built for class one operation. With End-of-Train Devices fast replacing cabooses on the rear of road trains, the Short Body Bay Window Caboose was constructed with a design that could easily be adapted for shoving or “transfer” movements, featuring a longer platform on each end of the body for external riding. The Missouri Pacific design was used as the basis for cars commissioned by several other railroads, including the Louisville & Nashville and Southern Pacific. Many of both the original MoPac cars and copies continued in operation well into the 2000s, and a number are still used in MOW service or as shoving platforms today. The Bachmann N Scale Short Body Bay Window Transfer Caboose arrives newly-tooled with accurate details, blackened metal wheels, and E-Z Mate knuckle couplers.
