PROTOTYPE SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The 50ft Evans Double Plug Door (DPD) boxcar, manufactured by Evans Products (formerly U.S. Railway Equipment) during the1960s–1980s, was a 70-ton, high-capacity car designed for loading large, light goods like lumber, paper products, and canned goods The “double plug door” configuration allows for a wide opening, facilitating the loading of large items or palletized freight, while the plug design provides a flush interior, improving sealing for cargo protection. These versatile RBL-class insulated cars were essential for modernizing cargo handling and remained in service for decades.
