Kato (Japan) has announced the February 2024 Releases
EF58 Electric Locomotive with Icicles Cutter
● Item Introduction
With equipment against snow in snowy regions
Electric locomotive EF58 debuted in 1952 as a locomotive to meet the need of passenger transport after the last war.
In snowy regions, it was furnished with icicle cutter eaves and snow plow on the front, power supply indicating lisht, on the side.
A new varient of (HO) EF58 will appear with equipment against snow.
This locomotive is recommendable to tow (HO) SUHAFU 12, (HO) OHA12 and (HO)OHAFU13 which are planned for the simultaneous release.
◆ Product Features
- The characters of vehicles, which were made by Hitachi, and deployed from 1965 to 1975 to Takasaki 2nd locomotive depot, Utsunomiya and Takasaki depots, are represented.
- Equipment against snow such as icicle cutters, snow plow, electric heaters is reproduced.
- Body color and the belt on the front will be represented beautifully.
- Handrails, jumper hoses, wipers are molded as separate parts, reproducing 3D detail.
- Driving wheels and leading wheels are carved clear between spokes.
- Use of power unit with flywheels makes stable move possible.
- Headlights turn on.
- Exchange with included parts will represent the form without snow plow.
- The minimum negotiable radius: R550

Series 12 Passenger Cars
The Series 12 passenger cars are the first new series of passenger cars since the Series 20 Blue Train. Series 12 entered service in 1969, the year before the 1970 World Exposition in Osaka, to improve transportation capacities for the event. A major feature is that the passenger cars provided their own power, as the SUHFU 12 was equipped with diesel engines under the floor to generate power for six cars. The SUHAFU 12 was widely used not only for extra and group trains, but also for regular and express trains.

- The seats with armrests and handrails, three-dimensional trucks, under-floor equipment with piping, coolers as separate parts, ventilators, and other details are reproduced.
- Accurate reproduction of the blue car body with white belt that extends onto the doors.
- SUHAFU 12 and OHAFU 13 are equipped with functional taillights.
- The TR217 trucks have three-dimensional details such as secondary suspension and brake shoes.
- The jumper cable on the gable couplers is recreated as a separate part.
- Equipped with KATO couplers.
- Incl. expansion drawbar and lettering sheet with many different car numbers.
- Selectable side direction display with one "Express" option and one with a white belt.
