The Sound Equipped Big Boy Locomotives are going to be received by Kato mid January 2024.

We found out these engines will be first N Scale locomotives with factory equipped Sound and DCC!

Kato is sold out of the DCC & Sound Big Boys.

Coming in mid-2023, this colossal N Scale undertaking has been in the works from the engineers at Kato USA design department for more than three years, since before it was scheduled to debut in its modern form back in 2019, and will be the peak of Kato mechanical engineering and crafting. Every millimeter of the structure of this model has been carefully thought out to perfectly balance the distribution of weight across two articulated mechanisms hidden beneath the boiler, each with its own coreless motor drive that are synchronized with each other to achieve incredible smooth motion along with a powerful pulling capacity that essentially can perform the duty of two engines!

We will be taking pre-orders for this engine throughout the holiday season, making it the ultimate gift for any N scale modeler (as long as they don’t mind celebrating Christmas a second time in May!). This engine, like all of Kato’s models, will be available as a standard Analog version (a first for this big steam engine in N scale!) as well as with factory installed motor control DCC, and factory installed Soundtraxx DCC & Sound
