The EMD F40PH has been synonymous with American passenger rail for almost 50 years since they first debuted with Amtrak in 1975! Even though some railroads have since retired their powered F40PHs, the F40 continues to be a favorite among railroaders and rail fans alike. This especially true in areas like Chicago where the F40PHs are still going strong as a prominent part of Metra’s locomotive fleet.
Metra has been operating the F40PH on its roster since Metra’s inception in 1984. As the decades have passed, their F40s have seen many different paint schemes from the inherited baby blue RTA scheme, to the newer blue and silver fade scheme with orange stripes. Coming in time for Metra’s 40th anniversary, Kato USA is excited to announce new road numbers in 3 different Metra F40PH paint schemes:
#157 “City of Palatine” in the classic blue and red-orange scheme
#183 “Village of Itasca” in the modern blue and silver fade scheme
#104 “City of Chicago” in a one-of-a-kind Chicago inspired scheme
