Built by Pullman Standard starting in the late 1940's and into the 1950's, the PS-2 Covered Hoppers were used to transport granular bulk commodities, such as cement, soda ash, sand and grain.

The Yellow would add some color to an otherwise bland Gray or Tan PS-2 hoppers.  But lets face it, if your were carrying Ash or Cement or were carring Sand or Grain, you would be Gray or Tan. 

However, there is color in the lettering.  The Ful-O-Pep below has nice contrasting red lettering for the Quaker Oats Company.  And following that, the Southern Pacific has the nice red lettering. 

So in a bland world of Gray and Tan, a little Red makes a big difference and the Yellow of the C&NW stands out even more than it normally would.  So, enjoy.

Suggestion, make your day exciting by laying in a crossing figure-8 in your layout.  Then buy enough of these to make a consist long enough to just barely miss when the Locomotive comes to the crossing (and the last car has just barely escaped).  It's more exciting that the man in the Music Man in Rivercity who lay for 3 1/2 hours without moving a muscle.  But seriously, there is an anticipation each time the locomotive comes to the crossing, is he going to catch up with his tail.  Fun!!
