The BX-177 insulated single door box car is similar to other BX series developed and built by the Santa Fe for the logistics of beer distribution throughout North America. No matter where you live or have railfanned in North America, chances are you've seen this car mixed into general merchandise freights - both individually or in cuts of several beer cars.
First unveiled in the Santa Fe's famous "Indian Red" paint scheme, bearing a large white cross herald and "Shock Control" lettering. these cars were repainted into different paint schemes at different times. Following the creation of BNSF, these cars now can be seen in a modern day BNSF brown scheme featuring the BNSF swoosh logo.
The first release of this new model includes 12 road numbers for Santa Fe & Burlington Northern Santa Fe.
