In 1995 UPS made the first commercial purchase of 28 ft containers. This was in an effort to diversify their equipment fleet. The initiative positioned UPS as the first small-package carrier to move into domestic containerization. In order to economically carry the 28’ Container, the 56 ft Well Car was designed and constructed.

The 56 ft well car is a bit of an oddity, as it is designed specifically to carry the somewhat rare 28 ft Container. These containers are often used by UPS and allow for towing 2 containers on chassis over many roads. This allows for larger shipment capacity for each truck. Though these well cars are meant for 28 ft containers, they can hold any container from 20 to 53 ft, giving them added versatility.

This release of well cars includes road numbers in three schemes. The matching container release includes three schemes with three different 3-Packs available.
