The 1937 AAR boxcar is widely viewed as the first standard freight car type that was voluntarily adopted by the majority of railroads in North America. Previously, railroads used several USRA mandated car types.

These cars had many features that went on to become standard on future generations of boxcars. These include dreadnaught ends, straight panel roof and an inside length of 40’ 6”. They had an interior height of 10’ with a 3700 cubic foot capacity.

Starting around 1941, several railroads modified the design by increasing the internal height of the car to 10 feet 6 inches. This allowed for easier loading of taller freight and slightly increased capacity.

This release includes an undecorated version along with multiple road numbers in ten schemes.
