Box cars have been around since the early days of railroading. They have grown in both size in type over the decades. And while the use of box cars peaked after World War II with increase of over the road trucking, and later containers, they still play an important in the transport of many types of cargo today.
These 50 foot FGE built box cars were developed for the transport of perishable goods that did not need full refrigeration. Instead these cars used insulated walls and tight fitting Youngstown plug doors to control the temperature and humidity.
These cars were used by many railroads and operators and can still be seen today.
This release includes six schemes with three road numbers available for each.
