The EMD SW-1 was an early diesel switcher produced from 1938 to 1953. It used a 6 cylinder EMD 567 prime mover with 600 horsepower. Over 650 were made and may have been limited by wartime limits on production. They went on to serve many railroads over the following decades. Even today, a few remain in service with excursion lines.
