The GP60 is the last of the Geeps, and was built between 1985 and 1994. It is known as the first EMD 3rd generation diesel, featuring microprocessor control over many aspects of locomotive operation. These locomotives are powered by a 16 cylinder 710G3A 3,800 horsepower prime mover.
Sales were limited due to the shift of Class I's to six axle locomotives over the years, only 294 GP60's, 23 GP60B's and 63 GP60M's were built. Original operators included Santa Fe, Norfolk Southern, Southern Pacific St. Louis Southwestern along with a small number of units with other operators. Today, these units remain in service with BNSF, UP & Norfolk Southern along with other smaller roads.
