Union Pacific and Hub Group, Inc. launched the UPHU container program in 2006. Hub Group, Inc. is the largest Intermodal Marketing Company (IMC) in North America. As an IMC, Hub arranges the movement of its customers' freight in containers and trailers over long distances.

The initial white UPHU containers (also available by Athearn) were remarks of once underutilized containers owned by Union Pacific that now turn constantly with freight. In fall of 2008, Union Pacific had new green UPHU containers produced, reflecting the environmentally friendly Intermodal product that Union Pacific supports and Hub Group, Inc. sells.

Note: For these models, the Athearn Jindo container is used as a stand-in for the Hub Group, Inc. CIMC container, and the Athearn Stoughton container model is a stand-in for the Hub Group, Inc. Hyundai container. These are not “exact” replicas of their respective prototypes, but they are very similar substitutes.
